C, O, G

This week we started Letterbook G.  I wanted all of you to be aware that it is important that you work with your child at home on these letter sounds.  They will begin putting these letter sounds together in the next couple of weeks to start reading short vowel words.  It's so exciting, but can be frustrating to the ones who do not know these sounds.  We review and work on them a lot at school.  However, it's so important to take the time just to review a little.  This builds their confidence knowing you want to see what they are learning at school.  Get excited!!

Also, review their number 1-10.  We are working on letter 6 this week.  This means, recognizing the numbers and being able to write them.

Thank you!!

Color Words

We started the year off with just our names on the word wall.  This week we added our color words.  Please review these with your children at home.  We do a lot at school, but of course you reviewing them at home will help.

You can use:

  • index cards
  • write the color word in with the same color marker
  • spell it out and have them say the word
Be creative!

Here are the color words we added:
  1. brown
  2. blue
  3. black
  4. green
  5. gray
  6. orange
  7. purple
  8. pink
  9. red
  10. white
  11. yellow

Picture Day

I wanted to go ahead and post that picture day will be Tuesday, September 14th.  I posted it under the Important Information tab.  Please always check that, even though I will always send home reminders in their folders.  I thought you might want to think about an outfit ahead of time:)

Also, we began the # 4 today.  I talked a lot about you draw a # 1, then draw an uppercase or capital L on top of the # 1.  That seemed to really help them with their formation of the number 4.

I hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend!

Right Vs. Left

Today, we began talking about the concept of left and right.  Another Kindergarten teacher came up with the brilliant idea of writing a R and L on their hands.  I took this idea from her and used it today.  So if you see a r and l on their hands, you now know what it is for.  You can ask them questions at home such as:

What hand are you eating with?
What hand do you brush  your teeth with?
What hand are you writing with?
What hand do you throw the ball with?

I had one Mom tell me that the dad used a Barbie car and would say, "ok, which way am I turning now"? She would have to answer that the car is turning left or right.  What a great idea.  Talk to them about you turning in your car.  Which way are we turning?

These are all just ideas.  You can do whatever you wish.

Any question to bring awareness to to this concept will help!

Thanks:)
